About HowMuchMoneyDoINeed.com
HowMuchMoneyDoINeed.com is a free, plain-language library of financial tools such as calculators for the math, guides for the judgment calls, and more built for women in their 40s and 50s. Each tool answers one of life's big midlife money questions — buying a house, retiring, paying for college, building an emergency fund, planning a wedding, or affording a car — with real numbers, the math shown, and the assumptions stated plainly underneath.
Why we built it
Most money questions get answered with vibes or jargon — and women in midlife hear the worst of it, whether catching up on retirement after a career break, funding a child's college, buying a home solo, or rebuilding after divorce. We wanted the opposite: pick a goal, move a few sliders, and get a concrete number you can actually defend. No sign-up, no email wall, no upsell — just the calculation and a short article explaining the rule of thumb behind it.
What the calculators do
- Show the inputs and the formula, not just a final figure.
- State every assumption (interest rate, inflation, withdrawal rate) next to the result.
- Pair each result with a plain-English article so you understand why the number is what it is.
- Stay free and anonymous — no account required to use any calculator.
What the calculators do not do
- They are not financial, tax, investment, or legal advice.
- They do not account for your full personal situation, taxes, benefits, or local rules.
- They do not recommend specific products, lenders, investments, or advisors.
Who is behind the site
HowMuchMoneyDoINeed.com is an independent educational project. The calculators and articles are written and reviewed for clarity and general accuracy, but they are educational estimates — not a substitute for advice from a licensed professional who knows your situation.
